The Stone Ridge Sustainability Committee is a team of students, faculty, and staff from the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School that work together toward a sustainable campus. This group creates the Sustainable at Stone Ridge Newsletter to share with the whole Stone Ridge Community. Together we:

  • Meet to generate ideas and work on projects
  • Learn about sustainable actions we can take
  • Share with the Stone Ridge community

Why work together for sustainability?

“We can make a difference and make every day Earth day.” – Bess, 4th grade

“I joined the Sustainability Committee to be the change I wanted to see at this school, and to give students who are passionate about the environment someone they can see who is making a difference at their age, and that they can too.”  – Erin, 11th grade

“Let’s all go green together starting today.” – Elinor, 4th grade

“I feel strongly that we need to work together to leave a better Earth for future generations.”  – Jeanette Roman, LS Toddler Teacher

“Each of us must be concerned for others and the natural environment.  We have a moral imperative of assessing the impact of our every action and personal decision on the world around us. If we can overcome individualism, we will truly be able to develop a different lifestyle and bring about significant changes in society. An awareness of the gravity of today’s cultural and ecological crisis must be translated into new habits.”  – Lauren Winkler, MS Teacher

“Innovation and sustainability have to be sisters in imagining a better world for human beings, and I think we need girls at the center of that imagining.” – Jaime Chao Mignano, EdTech & Innovation

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela from Dr. Winter, LS STEAM Teacher

“I am passionate about Sustainability at SR because I enjoy engaging with the students who are passionate about caring for our planet.  If I can be a role model, in any small way, and help these young ladies become sustainability leaders as adults, I will be content in my role as a Facilities Director and educator.” –  Andrew Harrington, Facilities
